10 -16 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE CHECKLIST

Clean House (Get rid of items you dont need, donate, host a garage sale, moving sale or estate sale, get rid of Clutter)
Research Your New Community (Get your family involved, so they feel included with the move if applicable, start looking into schools, activities, banking institutes, etc)
Have a budget (Figure out what you can afford, this will help you decide if you want to use movers, or will be renting a truck and doing it yourself. Also factor if you will have other costs, like storage, closings, security deposits, etc.)
Make arrangements ( If traveling long distance, book flights, hotels, babysitters, pet boarding, auto shipping, etc, there is alot to handle prior to your move day, make sure everything is booked and reserved and ready to go)

6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE CHECKLIST

Pick your move date (Get your lease signed, documents signed, finalizing your home)
Company Relocation (If your company is moving you, find out what regulations they have for paying for your move, and picking a mover)
Rent a truck/Reserve your storage unit (Whether you are renting a truck or reserving a storage unit, or space, put your deposit down, get your date set and confirmation)
Packing (Decide if you are packing yourself or using professionals to do this for you)
Insurance (Start ending old policies and entering into new ones and changing over new information)
Apartments or Rentals (If you are renting find out what the policy is for vacating and deposit returns if applicable)
Documents (Get all documents into one area, birth certificates, wills, deeds, leases, birth certificates, etc)
Layout (Start figuring out where you want to put furniture at your new location, figure out a floor plan, have fun doing this)
