Massachusetts Dept of Public Utilities regulates Massachusetts IntraState Household Goods Moving.
Massachusetts Moving and Storage Rules and Regulations
The Massachusetts Dept of Public Utilities regulates household moves. The mover must publish their tariff with the Department of Public Utilities. The tariff outlines all of the services and charges for the movers, and the Massachusetts Dept of Public Utilities holds all movers in the state of Massachusetts responsible for following by their published rates, policies, and procedures as set forth by the MDPU.
Movers can charge hourly or by weight and distance depending on what they have in their tariff. Moving companies must have MA # for local moves, and if they are renting vehicles they must have a proper vehicle permit.
One important thing to remember is that you make sure your local mover carries workers compensation insurance and the proper licensing on equipment and vehicles.
