Montana Public Service Commission Regulates Intrastate movers in Montana.
Montana Rules and Regulations
Montana Public Service Commission regulates household movers. Intrastate movers in Montana are required to have a Certificate of Authority granted to them, this is based on Public Convenience and Necessity. The mover must publish their tariff with the Montana Public Service Commission. The tariff outlines all of the services and charges for the movers, and the Montana Public Service Commission holds all movers in the state of Montana responsible for following by their published rates, policies and procedures as set forth by the Commission.
In the state of Montana, most companies will price hourly if the move is less than 30 miles (this is considered a local move) and if over 30 miles or their tariff is not published hourly they price by weight and distance (intrastate move). They do have to have the appropriate DOT #’s on their trucks. Most Montana movers publish their tariffs under the Montana Tariff Bureau.
One important thing to remember is that you make sure your local mover carries workers compensation insurance and the proper licensing on equipment and vehicles.
